Australia Awards PNG offers a range of Short Course Awards (SCA) annually supporting the development of Papua New Guineans’ knowledge and skills in priority human resource development areas; and enhancing the partnerships and linkages between Papua New Guinean and Australian organisations.

Short Course Awards are offered to aspiring Papua New Guinean leaders, changemakers and influencers from the public service, private sector and civil society who want to develop new skills and increase their networks and potential through tailored learning delivered by reputable Australian tertiary education institutions. A range of capacity building Short Course Awards are offered across a variety of sectors. To date, short courses have been offered in the areas of:

  • Agriculture
  • Climate Change
  • Diplomacy
  • Education
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Environment
  • Governance
  • Health
  • Human Resources
  • Leadership
  • Research
  • Project Management
  • Public Policy
  • Social inclusion
  • STEM
  • Trade

The benefits of a Short Course Award include:

  • Development of knowledge and skills in targeted learning area
  • Pathway for higher academic qualifications (e.g. Masters or PhD)
  • Establishment of professional links across Papua New Guinea and Australia
  • Accredited learning delivered by an Australian university or Registered Training Organisation (RTO) recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF)*.

*some short courses will be a certificate of participation only, subject to program requirements

Around 30 participants will participate in each Short Course Award and include five-day pre-course and post-course workshops in Papua New Guinea and up to 12 weeks of study (in Australia and/or Papua New Guinea) over a period of up to eight to 12 months.
