Women shaping the future of PNG’s higher education

HEP Roundtable

Papua New Guinea’s women academics gathered in Port Moresby and Lae recently to share powerful stories of professional growth, research breakthroughs and strengthened regional ties through the 2024 Women Linkages Support Program, part of the Australia Awards PNG (AAPNG) Higher Education Partnership initiative.

The Women in Academia Panel Discussions brought together 50 women from PNG’s higher education sector for a thought-provoking exchange of ideas and experiences. The discussions also included 15 women who had participated in the pilot Linkages Support Program, to share their challenges, impacts and vision for PNG’s higher education sector.

The discussions and insights shared will guide future support for academics under the PNG-Australia Partnership. From cutting-edge medical practices to global perspectives on digital learning, the stories shared highlighted the transformative impact of international collaboration.

The Linkages Support Program is part of the PNG-Australia Partnership commitment to strengthen the quality and inclusiveness of higher education in PNG.
