Intake 2027 – Postgraduate Diploma in Education(Secondary Teaching, STEM)

Australia Awards In-PNG Scholarships provide training in priority areas identified by the Governments of Australia and Papua New Guinea and are delivered through selected partner tertiary institutions in PNG.

Graduates of the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Secondary Teaching – Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM)) program contribute to improving the quality of education outcomes in Papua New Guinea.

Women, people with disabilities and applicants from rural and remote areas are strongly encouraged to apply.

The Government of Australia, in partnership with the Government of Papua New Guinea, will offer scholarships for study in 2027 at the University of Goroka.

This scholarship supports study in PNG only (not Australia) and is open to both women and men. Applicants must have completed an undergraduate degree in a relevant field of Science or Mathematics between 2021 and 2025.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • meet the entry requirements for the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (STEM) at the University of Goroka
  • be a PNG citizen residing in PNG at the time of application
  • not have been convicted of a criminal offence not have been terminated from a previous Australia Awards scholarship
  • demonstrate a commitment to working as a secondary science or mathematics teacher, including in rural and remote schools
  • hold a bachelor’s degree in a relevant science or mathematics field
  • (see eligible degrees below) completed between 2021–2025, with a minimum GPA of 2.6.

Eligible First Degrees

Applicants must have completed one of the following:

  • Bachelor of Science (Biology) 
  • Bachelor of Science (Chemistry) 
  • Bachelor of Science (Mathematics)
  • Bachelor of Science (Computer Science & Mathematics)
  • Bachelor of Science Honors (Mathematics) 
  • Bachelor of Science (Physics).

  • full tuition fees and on‑campus accommodation (where applicable)
