Australia Awards In-PNG Scholarships support training in priority areas identified by the Governments of Australia and Papua New Guinea and are delivered through selected partner tertiary institutions in PNG.
Midwifery scholars and graduates contribute to improving maternal and child health outcomes across Papua New Guinea.
Since 2012, more than 600 midwives have been trained through Australia Awards In PNG Scholarships. Women, people with disabilities and applicants from rural and remote areas are strongly encouraged to apply. The Government of Australia, in partnership with the Government of Papua New Guinea, will offer scholarships in 2027 to undertake an 18-month Bachelor of Midwifery at the following partner institutions:
- Divine Word University (St Maryβs Vunapope School of Nursing)
- Lutheran School of Nursing
- Pacific Adventist University
- University of Goroka
- University of Papua New Guinea.

Eligibility
Applicants must:
- meet the admission requirements for their nominated institution(s)
- be a PNG citizen residing in PNG at the time of application
- not have been convicted of a criminal offence
- not have been terminated from a previous Australia Awards scholarship
- hold a PNG nursing qualification (diploma or higher)
- have a minimum of two yearsβ recent experience as a practising nurse by the commencement of study in 2027
- be fully registered with the PNG Nursing Council
- if a public servant, provide employer endorsement in line with PNG Public Service General Orders.
