About Short Courses
Australia Awards Short Courses provide targeted skill development opportunities for Papua New Guineans that:
- offer short-term professional learning in Papua New Guinea and Australia
- enhance skills in key sectors, responding to workforce gaps and priorities, supporting Papua New Guinea’s development and individual career growth
- meet priority learning and development needs, resulting in a new skill and/or qualification (e.g.microcredentials)
- provide networking opportunities and exposure to Australian organisations and culture.
Eligibility
To be eligible, applicants must:
- Be a Papua New Guinean citizen
- Have graduated within the last four (4) years from a registered PNG tertiary institution
- Hold a recognised qualification such as a diploma, graduate certificate, bachelor’s degree, or master’s degree
- Not currently employed in a field related to your area of study or currently seeking employment
- Demonstrate an interest in developing skills in program management
- Be available to attend a Youth Short Course (one-week, two-week, or four-week) on a full-time basis
- Have intermediate to advanced English language proficiency
- Possess intermediate IT skills (e.g. ability to use computers effectively)
- Be committed to actively fostering networks within Papua New Guinea and Australia.

- Digital Competence: ICT Fundamentals

Are you a recent graduate looking to build your skills and advance your career options? Consider a Short Course for Youth!
Youths who meet the eligibility criteria will be able to apply for Short Courses ranging from one to four weeks in 2026 and 2027. These Short Courses will build knowledge and skills in project management, decision-making, budgeting & compliance, monitoring and evaluation, and ICT.
