Australia Awards In-PNG Scholarships help Papua New Guineans to gain tertiary qualifications in key areas identified by the Governments of Papua New Guinea and Australia. These scholarships are offered through selected institutions in PNG.
Midwives play a vital role in improving maternal and child health outcomes across Papua New Guinea.
The Government of Australia, in partnership with the Government of Papua New Guinea, will offer scholarships to undertake an 18-month Bachelor of Midwifery in 2026 at the following institutions:
- University of Papua New Guinea
- Lutheran School of Nursing
- University of Goroka
- Applicants must nominate their preferred institution.

Eligibility
- Meet the entry requirements of the institutions
- Be a citizen of PNG and residing in PNG at the time of application
- Have no criminal convictions
- Not have been terminated from a previous Australia Awards scholarship
- Hold a PNG nursing qualification (diploma or higher)
- Have at least two years of recent employment as a practicing nurse by the time your studies begin in 2026
- Be fully registered with the PNG Nursing Council
- If employed as a permanent public servant, obtain formal endorsement from your employer as per the PNG National Public Service General Orders on training

- Travel to and from your province of residence to your chosen institution (mobilisation and demobilisation)
- Medical kit for nursing & midwifery scholars
- Return travel for Christmas (reunion travel)
- Full tuition fees and on-campus accommodation (if you are residing on-campus)
- One-off establishment allowance
- Fortnightly contribution to your living expenses
- A contribution to medical expenses
- Participation in enrichment programs
- Support for the transition into the workforce after graduation
- One-year associate membership of the PNG-Australia Alumni Association (upon successful graduation)
