Ambassador Ivan Pomaleu, Papua New Guinea’s Ambassador to APEC joined high-level delegates and 53 of Papua New Guinea’s most promising public servants and high level delegates at an exclusive Australia Awards PNG Fellowships networking event at the Old Parliament House in Canberra on Thursday, 27 July.
The participants from various PNG Government departments all have important roles to play when APEC is hosted in PNG in 2018. They are currently in Australia to complete Graduate Certificates in International Relations or International Trade through the Australia Awards Papua New Guinea.
Australian High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea Bruce Davis said: “I am delighted that the Australia Awards PNG continues to draw interest from Papua New Guinea’s top public servants, especially those involved with APEC in 2018.
“All 53 participants are exceptional candidates who have had, and will continue to have, a big influence in the public sector in PNG and an important role to play in APEC 2018.
“I wish them well in Australia for the duration of their studies.”
The networking event marked the end of the participants’ second block of studies in Australia before returning to Papua New Guinea in September 2017 to complete the final part of their courses.
The delegates met with representatives from the Australian Government including Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Austrade, Australian Universities, Australian Businesses, Australia PNG Business Council, and the PNG High Commission as part of the program.
They also participated in high-level meetings, including an APEC inter-departmental meeting and an APEC simulation exercise.
