Trevor Magei successfully developed the first Oro Provincial Humanitarian Response Policy for Northern Province in Papua New Guinea to enable local communities better plan, prepare and respond to natural disasters.
Trevor is the Provincial Disaster Coordinator at the Oro Provincial Administration and is responsible for the coordination of resources for dealing with all humanitarian aspects of emergencies, particularly preparedness, response and recovery in the event of natural disasters.
After completing a Certificate IV in Project Management delivered through the Kangan Institute of TAFE under an Australia Awards Fellowship – PNG short course program, Trevor gained greater insight in becoming an effective project manager.
“The short course has really helped me to understand how to effectively manage sustainable programs at community, district and provincial levels,” says Trevor.
“We have a lot of incomplete projects in the country; one of the reasons is lack of expertise in project management.
“I now have the necessary advanced knowledge to initiate, plan, implement, manage and deliver the projects for managing natural disasters in the Northern Province.”
Many of the issues related to relief distributions during natural disasters will now be guided by the new policy developed by Trevor.
